GraffitiDancers Inc. was started in May of 2005 by Julia Herrmann. Having worked
in the Chicago Industry for seven years, it became apparent that the one area
lacking in most night clubs and venues were fabulous dancers that drew in the
attention of the crowd and caused everyone to join them on the dance floor. Granted,
many night clubs have go-go dancers that are there for show...but what most didn't
realize was that many people were watching these dancers to see their beauty
AND talent. After observing numerous dancers at several different locations,
Julia decided it was time to offer Chicago the best dancers they have seen that
will not only approach the dance floor with the newest moves through freestyle,
but will also be capable of performing choreography at any given time to draw
in the crowds attention (which is what people love about them).
After viewing the amazing reaction that the dancers received in Chicago's night
clubs, Julia decided not to limit them to just the "industry" and started
working on serious choreography with
contributing works from several company members. GraffitiDancers then began performing
in showcase after showcase, which soon landed them a two week performance at
one of Chicago's top artists' theatres. This performance will hopefully be the
start of annual performances with this theatre and several others.
Also, GraffitiDancers is now offering classes and is preparing to open a large
dance studio for all ages which will offer all levels and techniques of dance,
but will be rooted in hip-hop and jazz. Through this studio, GraffitiDancers
will take residency, preparing for large performances, tours and will also be
teaching classes.
As one of the fastest growing dance companies, having doubled their members,
numbers and performances in less than six months time from opening, GraffitiDancers
has taken on Chicago full strong.
